Invitation Summer School “Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society”

We would like to invite you to our International Summer School entitled “Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society” which takes place on 3.-7. July 2017 and is hosted by the TU Dresden/Germany (School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Center for Integration Research).

Outlook of the Summer School

In Germany-a country of immigrants—what counts as one of the biggest  tasks for society as a whole is the integration of people with diverse backgrounds (ethnicity, age, gender, etc.) into a society which regards itself as inclusive. Therefore, a particular challenge is finding a way to properly utilize and develop the potential of such a diversified society. Societies that are open to such varying diversities are the main focus of research in so-called “post-migrant approaches.”  These approaches shift the perspective from migration itself to the processes resulting from it- for example, social and political transformations, conflicts, and identity construction.

In this context, the topic of integration and labour in post-migrant societies is of enormous importance, for it is within this area that participation within society is made possible. In light of the shortage of skilled labour and the current climate of demographic transition, integration can furthermore positively influence developments in the labour market. By extensively discussing relevant practices and concepts, Summer School 2017 revolves around the topic of integration with a special focus on how to further develop the structures and processes of vocational training and employment in an age of diversification. Target Audience: Competition and Selection Process The group of participants will consist of researchers (on a doc and post-doc level) based in a variety of fields and from various different countries of origin who have been awarded for their excellent research activities (on the relevant qualification level) and innovative contributions to migration and integration studies.

Those interested are asked to describe their expertise in the subject matter detailed above and to state their motivation for participation in the form of an application. A committee consisting of professors from the Faculty of Education together with representatives of the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Institute of Sociology will be responsible for selecting appropriate candidates. 20 international researchers as well as 5 researchers of TU Dresden will be selected.
